The pet food market is experiencing rapid growth, especially for high-protein, high-meat wet food, meat strips, canned food, and products packaged in aluminum foil bags. These products have very high requirements for shelf life, taste, nutrition, and safety. Many customers ask: What sterilization method is best suited for wet pet food? Today, we will clarify which sterilization method is most suitable for pet food.
I. Comparison of Common Sterilization Methods
1. Pasteurization: Temperatures range from 60-90 degrees Celsius. It only partially sterilizes and has a short shelf life, requiring refrigeration and a cold chain, making it unsuitable for wet pet food.
2. Microwave Sterilization: Pet food often contains meat chunks, meat paste, or meat jelly. Heat transfer is slow, ordinary sterilization is incomplete, and heating is uneven; the center temperature of the meat chunks is insufficient. Packaging is prone to bulging, deformation, and bursting, making it unsuitable.
3. Ordinary Pressure Vessel Sterilization: Without pressure control, the pressure difference during heating and cooling is large. Pet food is often packaged in soft packaging, aluminum foil bags, bowls, cans, etc., which are not pressure-resistant and will directly burst, deform, or dent.
4. Back pressure High-Temperature Sterilization: The only suitable method. Temperatures are 115–125℃, with fully controllable pressure, pressure holding, and back pressure cooling throughout the process, thoroughly killing bacteria, spores, and pathogens, ensuring shelf life of 6–18 months at room temperature. Protects packaging: no bulging, no denting, and no deformation.
II. Applicable Products and Features of Beilang Back pressure Sterilizers
Our fully automatic back pressure sterilizers are specifically designed for high-meat-content pet wet food: pet meat puree canned food, pet meat chunk wet food, meat strips, aluminum foil bag pet food, cat food canned food, dog food canned food, pet snacks, etc.
Our product features: Fully back pressure control, zero packaging damage; spray/water bath options available, even heating; PLC fully automatic control, precise temperature and pressure; pressure vessel safety certification ensures sterilization safety; export standards, meeting European and American food hygiene requirements.
III. Why Must Pet Wet Food Use Back pressure?
Meat products must be sterilized to kill spores, which can only be achieved through high-temperature reverse pressure sterilization. Furthermore, the pressure in flexible packaging must be balanced; otherwise, the bags will bulge or break. Most importantly, a long shelf life at room temperature is essential, and only reverse pressure sterilization can reliably achieve this. If you produce wet pet food but use a regular sterilizer, you will almost certainly encounter problems such as bulging bags, leaks, spoilage, returns, and failing quality inspections.
